QBCC Commissioner

Steve Griffin became the Commissioner of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission on 3 February 2014.

Mr Griffin had almost 30 years’ experience working in government in a variety of roles, including at senior levels in regulatory environments and has a strong background in leading and delivering significant regulatory reforms, particularly within the building and construction industry.

Mr Griffin’s previous roles include:

  • Deputy Commissioner with NSW Fair Trading
  • Assistant Commissioner, Home Building Service with NSW Fair Trading
  • Acting Inspector-General with NSW Corrective Services

He also helped establish Service NSW (a single contact point for residents and businesses to access NSW government services), which resulted in faster service, simplified transactions and reduced transaction times.

As Assistant Commissioner with the NSW Home Building Service, Mr Griffin helped introduce reforms and services which resulted in less red tape for businesses and fewer consumer complaints.

While Deputy Commissioner of NSW Fair Trading, he implemented government reform programs which delivered service improvements to consumers and trades and led enhancements to the organisation’s regulatory compliance and enforcement capabilities as well as a cultural change program which improved NSW Fair Trading’s overall performance.

Mr Griffin has a Bachelor of Economics degree, postgraduate qualifications in management and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
